Extremely rare 1958 AP2 Chrysler Wayfarer V8 Utility for sale. Only 28 V8s ever
made with remaining numbers likely to be low teens. The Wayfarer was an early
example of the popular “utes, ” coupe/pickup combinations. This model is
particularly unique as just 1, 205 Wayfarers were sold between 1958 and 1960. The
Wayfarer was made in the AP2 and AP3 series and only 28 AP2 V8s were produced.
(AP – Australian Production) This vehicle comes with the powerful 313 cubic
inch Sawtooth V8 coupled with the heavy duty Power-flight 2 Speed Auto
transmission and some great options such as power booster, power steering,
carpets, toe bar and factory green tinted glass. It comes with its original
owners manual and a huge file of relevant documentation and receipts for all the
work carried out over the years. It has always been undercover and stored in dry
conditions so body condition is very good. It is an older restoration and has
been part of a private collection and seldom driven. Due to its many years of
infrequent use, a full mechanical service has been carried out on engine,
suspension, brakes and automatic transmission with all receipts and invoices
available upon request. In summary, the mechanical service has included a
complete carburetor overhaul including jetting on dyno and a full tune and
service (plugs, air filter, oil and filter) including setting tappets. A full
front brake overhaul has also been done, replacing shoes, machining drums and
re-sleeving of cylinders. Overhaul and servicing of rear brakes included
re-sleeving of wheel cylinders, new brake hoses and pipes. The rear diff has had
pinion seal replaced, including the machining of the speedy sleeve to yoke.
Total cost for all this mechanical work carried out by Specialty Tuning Marion
was $3900. The automatic transmission had several seal leaks but on a partial
pull down it was decided to go right through the complete transmission and it
has now been totally rebuilt with new parts with full overhaul costing $3, 500.
This work was done by DRW Transmissions at Lonsdale. ECBS at Edwardstown in SA
has just completed the final stage of servicing which included rear spring
resetting, overhauling and refitting brake booster and supply and fitting of a
new set of white wall tires. This previously restored example
is now mechanically in A1 condition with full receipts and tax invoices
available upon request and will be sold with the car. With possibly only 11 or
12 V8 Utilities in existence, this is a truly unique and an incredibly rare
Australian V8 utility and buying opportunity.
